Merry Christmas (and the happiest of holidays) to all the This Week In Doctor Who readership. This is the weekend of the first ever OFFICIAL Doctor Who Christmas special (The Feast of Steven in 1965 wasn't actually billed as a Christmas special). David Tennant is officially taking over as the 10th Doctor. The UK, the British military, and Canada are all getting The Christmas Invasion this weekend. The reviews make it sound exciting, it's 60 minutes long, and they're doing another one next year. Series Two will air sometime in 2006 - date to be determined.
A far cry from this time last year. We new the new Doctor Who was coming. No clue how it would turn out. CBC Canada and Prime TV New Zealand had bought the show, but otherwise we were still waiting to learn who the overseas broadcasters would be - we didn't even know about Australia. Doctor Who wasn't on TV at all in the UK for Christmas - UKTV Gold was pre-empting it for yet another weekend marathon of Carry On movies. We were hopeful, but it was a quiet Who Christmas 2004. How times change!
BBC Radio Wales http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/radiowales will air "Doctor Who Back In Time: New Doctor, New Danger" on Friday at 6:30PM and Saturday at 1:05PM GMT. It's a new Welsh documentary tied into the Christmas episode.
BBC Radio 7 http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7 airs episode 2 of "The Chimes Of Midnight", Big Finish's own Christmas contribution to Doctor Who, this Saturday at 6:30PM and 12:30AM GMT. No episode New Years Eve - part 3 airs on 7 January.
And don't forget Attack of the Graske, an interactive Doctor Who game/adventure to finish off Christmas night in the UK. Use the red button on digital TV to play the game anytime between 8PM and Midnight (it'll air again on New Years Day). Stars David Tennant with the player as companion.
UK Doctor Who fans get to see the TV Movie again at 8AM Christmas Day on UKTV Gold. Repeats on New Years Day and 2 January if you miss it.
Arabian Peninsula and Northern African Doctor Who fans - Showtime Arabia http://www.showtimearabia.com is bringing Doctor Who to their satellite platform beginning tomorrow. Style UK will air 2 episodes of Doctor Who per week. Thursdays and Fridays at 7PM UAE time (adjust for your time zone). Repeats the following day (Fridays and Saturdays) at 9AM and 4PM UAE. Congratulations to the latest Doctor Who broadcaster. I'll try to have a list of countries where you can subscribe to Showtime Arabia in the next few weeks.
France and Norway say goodbye to Series One this week. NRK 2 http://www.nrk.no airs Parting Of The Ways tonight at 8:05PM CET. France 4 http://www.france4.tv repeats Parting Of The Ways one more time - Christmas Eve at 8:30AM CET. Hopefully they will air future seasons and maybe repeat this season in the future. Shows that do well on France 4 sometimes air on the more widely available France 2 - no clue if this will happen with Doctor Who.
UKTV Gold has sent out the following letter in regards to the future of the weekend omnibus repeats of the classic Doctor Who stories:

"Thank you for your query regarding UKTV Gold. The omnibus episodes of Doctor Who will continue well into 2006 in the current 7:00am slot on Saturdays and Sundays. The series will be off air from this weekend till New Years Day while we play out our Christmas schedule. However, the series will return on 7th Jan when we will be showing the final 2 episodes of our Sylvester McCoy season. Following that we will be showing Colin Baker's episodes and from 19th Feb we will begin showing Jon Pertwee's stint as the Doctor with the episode Spearhead From Space.

Thanks to the readers who have been checking on this. Jon Pertwee is finally returning to UKTV Gold.
The BBC Press Office http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice and C21 Media http://www.c21media.net often announce when a Doctor Who international sale occurs. Worth keeping an eye on, just in case.
